Measuring Up... or Down!

Okay, big day at the gym. It was measurements day! My high weight is 347, my weight in February was 224, my weight yesterday was 213 (thanks TOM)

I was shocked my waist went down again and so much in 2 months. I haven't had a 38" waist since 8th grade... and probably not even then!

Note that my calves actually went up a 1/2", but I swear they look even leaner and meaner since the MS150.

Here's the rest...

More Meme from Mama

What was I doing ten years ago?
April 25, 1998? I had just moved to Dallas from NJ about 10 months prior. I think I was struggling to make a final break-up real. It was one of those long-term break-ups where you found yourself back in the arms of the one who was supposed to be an "ex." Not good, but come the following Memorial Day it was really done. I was working as a network administrator for a Big 5 accounting firm and was driving my first brand-new car, a Pontiac Sunfire. It was the start of the upswing of my life. :)

Five things on my To-Do list today:
Decide on what sh*t to sell to afford more training sessions. Attack Plan

So the Tri is Sunday, June 9th. That's exactly 6 weeks away! This mean very little in the way of a break.

FRI: Lifting
SAT: Swim/Bike Brick (first brick to use stationery bike at gym)
SUN: Bike/Run Brick
MON: Cardio
TUE: Lifting
WED: Bike/Run Brick
THU: Cardio

I can't really take a day off at this point, so my training days will be my lighter days *cough*.

Another good thing is that I have most of what I need. I have submitted my budgetary needs to my DFO (domestic financial counselor = "Hubs") and he will either approve or veto!

I have to be cost-conscious, as I raised nearly $1,000 for the Ms150, but spent more than in prep and gear... the stuff adds up!

100 Ways Wednesdays!

Here we are again... this weeks installment (41 - 50) of 100 Ways my life has been changed. Join SignGurl and company and list-away!

In as many ways as my life has changed, it is really challenging to actually think, recall and list them.

For the last few weeks I've been focusing on the positive, but I think it's only fair to give press to the challenges too

41) Ingesting an "alphabet" of vitamins... everyday.
42) A small price to pay for being healthy, but never being able to eat eggs, tons of sweet treats or carbonated beverages again.
43) Have to restrain myself when making clothing purchases... or go broke!
44) Learned who my "real" friends are; lost some in the process.
45) As much confidence as I have found, it doesn't change that I'm still shy in social situations
46) Although losing weight has not unveiled a total clarity in my life, it has poised me to make some career-change decisions
47) Never drinking 30 minutes before, 30 minutes after or durin…

Egg Whites = PUKE!

Okay, don't know what the deal is, but I've been eating egg whites and egg beaters for months. All of a sudden they make me puke. The smell of them just makes me want to gag. It's like they get stuck. Any other WLS post-ops have problems with eggs? It's just strange that it happened 15 months out!

A What? A Meme!

1. Do you like blue cheese?
It doesn't pass these lips; have no idea how Hubs eats it.

2. Have you ever smoked heroin?
No. Do you smoke it? Though that you shot it up?

3. Do you own a gun?
Me, no... but Hubs as 2 and they live in our house.

4. What flavor do you add to your drink at Sonic?
Whatever their sugar-free flavor is... but I rarely go.

5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments?
Depends on what it is for. I'm confident I'm pretty healthy.

6. What do you think of hot dogs?
Love'em... especially the real beef ones that are so full of fat and juicy. Nathan's & Sabrett's only!

7. Favorite Christmas movie?
A Christmas Story

8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
Coffee, at least 36 oz. on the week days.

9. Can you do push ups?

10. What's your favorite piece of jewelry?
In know... trite as it may be, my wedding band.

Training and participating in physical challenges.

It's Thursday and that makes me one happy camper! I don't even care that I have a sh*tload of cr@p to do at home this weekend, I'm just happy to not HAVE to ride, or HAVE to be anywhere (except where I want to be). I will probably try to ride some, but I think my torture of choice this weekend will be to get in the pool and swim.

I didn't mention it fully, but my body did a freaky thing over the MS150. On Friday, I weighed in at 212. On Monday morning I was 219!!! There is no way in H-E-L-L that I gained 7 lbs. over the course of the MS150. My guess is I just created such a caloric deficit (and probably some water retention) that my body said, "WTF?!" and held on to every thing it could. The good thing is, my body is bouncing back (215 this morning). I imagine that getting back into my routine of 6 meals a day my body will be convinced I'm not starving it, I should be back down to 212 (maybe lower?) by the weekend. This very thing happened after th…
Back to the boring stuff... the stuff exercise food journals are made of. Had a good workout last night. Did upper body and abs.

I love this machine -- the cable cross. We did nearly the entire upper body workout on it. Both the negative and positive resistance is a true (and productive) workout.

Cable Shoulder Press
Cable Biceps Curl
Cable Triceps Press
Cable High Row
Lat Pull down
Barbell Bench Press
Knee ups on barbell bench
Crunches on Disk

My body is retaliating, big time, for creating such a calorie deficit over the course of the MS150. No worries though... things will be back to normal by the end of the week. My body just needs some reassurance that is is going to receive some routine nutrition -- unlike over the weekend. LOL

MS150 - Done!

Well, I finished! And yes, I am proud. I'm also very grateful that everyone was so supportive, as their generosity gave me (and 13,000 other riders) the opportunity to experience something very special. The time on the bike was as challenging as it was fun... and at times even meditative.

Despite the fact that I always did things that were active in nature pre-op, the MS150 was one of those things I secretly feared; I could never fully commit to to it. In fact, I'd swim before I'd commit to riding 150 miles!! So completing the tour really makes me proud and it is like beating an old fear.

Would I do it again? I think so, but I know to do things a little differently. It was not without it's pitfalls and drama, but I don't want to dwell on that stuff and take away from the overall experience.

We really took full liberties on the tour. We took long rest stops (we needed it as we had strong headwinds and gusts up to 28mph -- the forecasts were sooooo wrong!). We …

Another double-postage day...

Nice, quiet. No rain. The wind isn't even shifting the American Flag outside my office window. I'm praying things stay this serene over the course of the weekend.

I Can't Believe I Didn't Share This!

That makes today a double-post day! Holy Cow!!

So we've had this harmless-prank thing going on in our office. It really has been silly-fun and it breaks the monotony of the day.

Many years ago, at a place of previous employment, "the box" was conceived. The Box was simply a box that had an address label on the top, left by the "Prankster", and appeared to the "Prankee"as an incorrect delivery. The Prankee would then pick-up box to bring it to its rightful owner. However when the box is picked-up the bottom is cut out, therefore a sh*tload of packing peanuts drop everywhere. :) ha. ha. Right? Those boogers are a pain to clean-up!

So the first pranks observed included a f@rt machine and Snickers-smeared underwear. Yeah, I know... gross; but funny nonetheless. I decided that it should be time to enlighten them and unveil the tradition of "the box".

I did. And it was good. We nailed 6 different people with the box. :)

In as many ways as my life has changed, it is really challenging to actually think, recall and list them.

31) People see "me" more often, not just my size.
32) Have I mentioned I just feel "good?" No, I mean I feel "great!"
33) I absolutely cannot wear "Women's" sized tops anymore - that freaks me out!
34) Actually enjoying making choices that will improve my health and make for better nutrition.
35) The confidence I feel when other trainers at my gym say to my trainer, "she can bench what?" (135 lbs., FYI)
36) I no longer feel like I live under a veil of hopelessness.
37) Because I feel more confident, I am finding the courage to make some life-changing career decisions.
38) The indescribable feeling of just wanting to do more, More, MORE!
39) Just being happy and having others notice my happiness.
You are the World
Completion, Good Reward.
The World is the final card of the Major Arcana, and as such represents saturnian energies, time, and completion.
The World card pictures a dancer in a Yoni (sometimes made of laurel leaves). The Yoni symbolizes the great Mother, the cervix through which everything is born, and also the doorway to the next life after death. It is indicative of a complete circle. Everything is finally coming together, successfully and at last. You will get that Ph.D. you've been working for years to complete, graduate at long last, marry after a long engagement, or finish that huge project. This card is not for little ends, but for big ones, important ones, ones that come with well earned cheers and acknowledgements. Your hard work, knowledge, wisdom, patience, etc, will absolutely pay-off; you've done everything right.

Space Race - Done!

That's me finishing... stick a fork in me I'm so done! Really... I'm a crispy critter from lack of sunscreen.

The Space Race was sponsored by Ronald McDonald house... so guess what waiting for us at the Finish: Hamburgers! LOL

It was a fabulous day for riding. Winds were 8 to 10 mph from the East. Of course at some point we were going right into the wind, but I was still able to maintain my speed. I was all excited to see my average of 16.2 through 2/3's of the race, but then the wind came. :(

I did 60 miles in 3 hours 40 minutes with a final average speed of 14.6 and a high max speed of 20-something mph.

FYI, burned 6,887 calories, according to my heart rate monitor. Body-wise I feel good today (physically). If it weren't for the sun burn, I'd just feel like I had a hard workout. I'm ready for next weekend!

I also learned that PowerAide does not like me... had a small foaming episode; luckily it didn't turn into vomiting. I also learned that while I…

Saturday Riding

Sorry, mostly boring post just so I can journal what worked today.

Winds: 8 mph
Distance: 40 miles
Avg. Speed: 14.2
Max Speed: 19.6

I'm still having some trouble with my low gears (damnit!) makes it hard to shift as approporiate to keep cadence. All-in-all, for riding alone and lack of training, not bad for me.

I focused on fueling every 10 miles (that's the distance between the stops at the MS150). I used "X-tend" recovery drink, which I seem to get better results with, as opposed to Cytomax. I did down 24 oz. of Cytomax before I even started riding today. I supplemented my liquid recovery with my favorite Snackin' Flax and some mediterrainian apricots (low on the glycemic index, but quick to your muscles).

Breakfast was 2 slices of sprouted grain bread and 1.5 oz. of low fat Cheese. About an hour later I had Nonfat yogurt with Blueberries. (Seemed to work)

Last night my trainer had a "newbie" shadowing our session. He told her I'm the second strongest wo…

All About Whining Today....

My training session on Tuesday, coupled with riding yesterday, is causing me some serious soreness. I know it's all good, but why does it have to hurt soooo much. I haven't had to hold on to the railing of my stairwell since I was pre-op! LOL

Today I'm having lunch with former co-worker. It will be interesting to see what her true intentions are. I'm not sure she really just wants to do lunch. I mean I've been gone for a year and all of a sudden, out of the blue, she wants to do lunch. She's a salesperson, so to speak, so I never trust them outright. Like I said it will be interesting.

Mapping out a 60 mile route for tomorrow. The thought of it is daunting and quite honestly I don't really want to do it, but I know I have to -- otherwise I'll be regretting it later on. It just stinks riding alone. :(

Sunday is the Space Race, and another 60 miles. After Sunday will be a week of rest, with the exception of my training sessions. I need all of m…

Boring Post About My Hump Day:
No Actual Humping Involved ;-)

Wow! My legs are already feeling last night's training session; almost tempted to text my trainer to tell him so as it would make him feel good. ;-) We did barbell squats, lunges, 1-legged squats and leg curls. Everything seemed to take it's toll quickly, but I guess that's because of all the riding this weekend.

Picked up my bike last night. The tune up is done and they refit me for it since I was so much heavier when first purchased it. My leg length did not change, but the clearance I needed for my stomach and pedaling sure had!

After waiting 2 hours for my bike I got to go home. I missed bedtime with the Cassinator, but she was still up talkin'/singing to herself. So I went in, kissed her good night, and heard "Mama I missed you. Of course that made it well worth it all.

Watched my Tivo'd Biggest Loser --what a mistake! I knew eventually the Blue Team would have to start eating their "own kind", so to speak, but why they didn't vote off…

100 Ways Wednesdays

I'd been meaning to do this since SignGrl announced it, so I guess I'm going to play catch up and do 1-30 so I'm on Week 3.

Join SignGrl and friends and list 100 ways your life has been changed by weight loss. Do a new list of 10 each week until you reach 100. It is a great way to remind yourself of where you came from and recognize your achievements.

Here I go!

1) I am no longer Diabetic.
2) I no longer suffer from High Cholesterol.
3) I no longer need a C-PAP Machine.
4) I identify myself less with being the fat-girl-who-can't-lose-weight and more with just living in a healthy, fit body.
5) I no longer worry about food in the same way I did before; I'm not consumed with it.
6) I have better cholesterol, at 128, than my doctor.
7) My Husband's constant reminders of how he supports my efforts in everything I do.
8) Being able to really "play" with my Daughter... Cart Wheel anyone?
9) Watching who I have always been (or wanted to be) on the inside come…
Well, I've officially met my minimum fund-raising requirement for the MS150. So all my friends, family and supporters should be happy to know they will all play a part in how much my a$$ will hurt the evening of April 13th. I probably won't be able to sit for a week, but I'll think of each one of you each time I find myself wincing with pain.

There's still time to get in on the pain-game... if you want:

I know I should be better prepared than I am. My vacation and unscheduled surgery really got me BEHIND on Saddle time (no pun intended), but I'm trying not to focus on that -- I can't change it anyway, so it's wasted energy. Right now my focus is to go a distance 2 days back-to-back. Last weekend I did 2 days of riding back-to-back, and this weekend I will increase the distance and do the same. If I can do 60 miles back-to-back this weekend, then I have no fears that I'll get through 80 miles back-to-ba…
